Fall Transitions
It’s that time of year. Little teases of crisp fall air drift through your window in the morning, only to disperse into a 78 degree afternoon… weekend trips to the orchard where the apples are in the trees but the grass that catches them is still hanging on to yesterday’s weather… All of fall’s pieces are in it’s place, on the tip of this year’s tongue waiting to be spoken and while you long for golden leaves and hot morning beverages, enjoy this last stretch of sun on your bare skin and get your fall essentials locked, stocked and ready to go.
The first thing I think of when Fall starts kicking in is sweaters. The easiest thing to work into your existing late summer wardrobe for layering is the cardigan. You don’t have to start packing away all of your cute summer dresses just yet, when all you need is to be creative with layers. Take a sleeveless cotton sundress, add a cardigan, a belt and some boots and you’re good to go! On cooler days add a soft cotton scarf or tights.

Second on my list is boots. The most practical thing, of course, is to have a black pair and a brown pair. Good, sturdy, comfortable pairs that can be worn with dresses, jeans and skirts are a great foundation. Once you have that covered it’s always fun to branch out to different styles and colors, such as a cowboy boot or a bright patent leather red! If you want to be trendy, this year’s fall boot is an over the knee look.

For those of you who aren’t dress girls, trousers are a great Fall staple. I personally love an oversized, wide leg tweed pant. The trick to pants is getting the right cut for your body type. If you are thin, a more narrow straight cut is best for you. A curvy girl looks fabulous in a wide leg trouser with heels to elongate.

The final early Fall essential for me is the accessories. A hat for chillier mornings and evenings like a tweed derby hat, a belt for keeping my layers nipped in, a cotton scarf to wrap loosely around my neck or to keep in my bag for those restaurants that still insist on pumping their air conditioners, and a good sized neutral tone bag for carrying it all!
